Review of a corporation’s approach to sustainable development and reporting

Summary

EEM joined the internal auditing team of a large city public transit corporation to review the relevance and quality of information reported in their public Sustainable Development report.

Approach and Solution

The corporation wanted to confirm that its approach to sustainable development and consequent reporting was suitable and relevant to its stakeholders. The internal audit team needed a subject matter expert to ensure that the report covered the appropriate range of topics and that the information being reported was accurate and in the form most relevant for its stakeholders. Expert opinion was provided for greenhouse gas estimations, spill reporting and stakeholder engagement, among other subjects. A benchmarking exercise against other large city public transit systems was also undertaken.

Results

Recommendations from the audit will help shape reporting in the future.
