Stakeholder mapping – New mining project

Summary

EEM facilitated two weeks of consultations in the Kativik region of Quebec and presented a detailed stakeholder map and 3-year community relations plan for a mining project operating in the region.

Approach and Solution

ÉEM developed a stakeholder list comprising community stakeholders in Kangiqsujuaq, Salluit and Puvirnituq as well as regional entities in Kuujjuaq. This list guided 2-weeks of consultation in the region aimed at identifying stakeholders’ concerns and expectations related to environmental protection, employment and training and communication.

The final report contained a detailed map of stakeholders and their concerns as well as recommendations for improving environmental management, human resources practices, operations and communications over a 3-year horizon.

Results

This work ensured a link between community concerns and key operational functions at the mine and laid the groundwork for effective long-term collaboration between the mine and its regional stakeholders.
