To make good strategic decisions, organizations need reliable information on the environmental and social impacts of their activities. This information can be generated internally by monitoring the organization’s performance, but it may be necessary to further assess the potential environmental and social impacts outside the organization’s direct operations. Adequate knowledge of the social and environmental impacts of different resources, equipment or supplies, as well as their technical performance and cost, are all relevant to achieving sustainability. ÉEM’s job is to cut through the hype behind the multitude of green standards found in the marketplace and properly assess different options available to a client. Whether relying on its internal resources or forming partnerships with external experts, ÉEM delivers results by providing clear guidance to clients in making decisions with long-term value in mind. ÉEM has a broad range of experience in sustainability assessment, from evaluating forest certification schemes that guide clients in setting paper procurement policies (Survey of Forestry Certification Schemes in Canada) to assessing the environmental and health & safety risks associated with product manufacturing and infrastructure maintenance. ÉEM can also assist in deciding on real estate options, by offering tools and expertise to assess the environmental profile of green buildings, based on LEED criteria. ÉEM also provides lifecycle assessments to help clients better understand the lifecycle impacts of a product or service, from cradle to grave, that will ultimately help in creating a more sustainable product that consumers will find more desirable.
