Summary

EEM was retained to audit the safety management system of a major national railway company in Canada, in keeping with the newly adopted Railway Safety Management System Regulations (SOR/2015-26).

Approach and Solution

The new regulations establish minimum requirements for the safety management systems developed and implemented by all railways, with the objective of achieving the highest possible safety standards. The regulations specify that safety management system audits must be performed every three years. For this mandate, EEM developed a gap analysis methodology and formulated audit protocols to meet the requirements of the regulations.

Results

The audit identified strengths and weaknesses that will allow the client to improve its railway safety management system.
