Development of a monitoring and management tool for EHS regulatory compliance at hydroelectric sites

Summary

For a renewable energy company’s hydroelectric sites, EEM developed a monitoring and management tool for environment, health and safety (EHS)  regulatory compliance.

Approach and Solution

The company operates more than 25 hydroelectric sites in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Québec) and the United States (Idaho), with gross power capacity ranging from 5 to 50 megawatts. Additional sites are under construction or development. The tool, in a convenient MS Excel format, allows the monitoring of regulatory compliance by theme (e.g. working at heights, hazardous substances, water, air) and has a dashboard that facilitates the identification of non-compliance.  EEM has also provided legal tracking as well as a quarterly update of the tool since 2012.

Results

This tool continues to allow our client to manage its regulatory compliance by ensuring that EHS requirements are adequately integrated with administrative and engineering control procedures. It also simplifies the communication of these requirements and related performance.
